Plastic surgery / Facial / Rhinoplasty

Nose remodeling, correcting imperfections and seeking the balance and harmony of the facial set, each nose requires a different treatment adapted to the facial morphology of each patient.

What is the process like?

Currently, rhinoplasty is a highly demanded procedure, both in women and men. The reasons are not only to reduce the size of the nose, but also to correct functional problems such as respiratory distress due to a deviated septum or old traumatisms.

The doctor, considering the wishes of the patient, will evaluate the patient’s nasal pyramid, taking into account the cartilaginous bony part and skin cover, and will explain the most convenient surgical technique for his/her physiognomy. Through a personalized study, Dr. Urcelay will explain to the patient the different approaches and will show him/her a simulation on the computer.

What is the operation like?

A rhinoplasty operation usually lasts about 2 hours. It is performed under general anesthesia and the patient is usually admitted in the hospital one night for more comfort. Rhinoplasty can be done in a closed manor (inside the nose), but it has now been proven that the open technique (with a minimal incision in the columella, which is imperceptible) allows a better visualization and therefore a more precise treatment of the different nasal structures (cartilage, septum and nasal dorsum) thus achieving an optimal result.

And the postoperative?

The day after the surgery, and after checking that there is no complication, the patient is discharged with medical and postural recommendations for greater postoperative comfort (raised head and cold on the area).

If it has been necessary to perform osteotomies (fractures of the nasal bones) to reduce the size or narrow the nasal pyramid, or if it has been necessary to touch the nasal septum and the nasal plugs a plaster splint will be placed that the patient will have to wear between 3-5 days after the intervention.

Depending on each patient, the bruises will fade within 5-7 days, but they can be camouflaged with makeup during this period. The patient will be able to lead a calm life, but without making great efforts, and will be able to resume normal life, depending on whether or not their jobis in the public eye, between the first day and a week after the intervention, when the splint is removed.

The result can be appreciated a month after the intervention, although it is not definitive until 3-6 months after, when the inflammation has disappeared.
