Dr. Urcelay, specialist in plastic surgery, works in a multidisciplinary team with specialists in gynecology and oncology. These specialists value the specific case of the patient and inform her of the type of intervention most appropriate for the patient’s specific case and the expected results.
The breast reconstruction intervention can be immediate, in the same surgical procedure of mastectomy or partial or delayed excision; and one or several reconstructive techniques are used: implantation of mammary prosthesis, use of own tissue, insertion of fat (lipofilling) and BRAVA system (minimally invasive technique of reconstruction with own fat).
It requires general anesthesia and hospitalization for 24 to 48 hours.
The patient should have a relative rest, without physical effort, and can lead a normal life 4 weeks after the intervention. The scars tend to fade after a year of surgery. The surgeon will try to make the intervention so that the scars are as concealed as possible.
